Curtis the Handy Man

Most recent project: super secret covered bike storage.
I really like building and fixing things.  If you have something (I'm particularly fond of porches, decks, outdoor furniture and anything in this arena) that needs to be built, fixed, renovated or considered for a project - please let me know.  I'd (probably) love to help.  There are a couple caveats:
1.  I am not licensed, not bonded and not insured.  I can help you on YOUR project, but I am not a contractor and I cannot take responsibility for your project.
2.  If you are in a hurry - at the very least, be prepared for resistance from me.  I don't like hurrying.  It causes stress and other problems.  I've been a contractor already.  I've had enough building project related stress to last the rest of my life.  I also spend a good portion of my time working with a non-profit organization, Go Connect.  That said, I do love to help in emergencies and urgent repair needs.
3.  If you are going to pay me, you are going to have to figure out how much without my help.  God has taken care of my family thus far in my stupidity and idealism.  For now, I don't generally discuss a fee or "my rate" with people.  I will work hard, do a good job, try not to make mistakes, care for you and your project and sing while I work.  Pay me what you think is fair.  If you can't afford it, don't.  If you have plenty of money, pay me extra.  It's between you and your conscience.  So far, it has balanced out and I have no reason to expect that to change.  I do what God puts in front of me each day and he covers the bills.  If it helps you to know how many hours I spent on your project - I generally try to keep track and I will let you know if you like.
My main motivations for working on carpentry/remodel projects is to spend time with people, offer useful help in tangible ways and take pleasure in shaping/fixing wood things while my overactive brain is distracted.  Thanks for the opportunity!

About Craft & Art

Seems there is a lot of confusion about the difference between art and craft.  I'm not sure (seriously, I don't know) the clarity warrants the effort.  So much of art is the practice of craft and so much craft is artful.  I know craftsmen (people) who do not think of themselves as artists and artists who don't think of themselves as craftsmen.  I can't figure out where the dividing line is.  I'm not sure there is one.  In any case, this page is dedicated to the art and the craft, the artists and the craftsmen I admire.  Some my even be mine/me - hope that's ok.
